SAL gives update to city council

   The city council and Mayor Charles Schwabe gathered at City Hall on Monday, August 6, for their monthly meeting.

   In reference to new business:

   • The Sons of American Legion (SAL) Squadron No. 103 updated council on the fire/police/EMS monument to be placed at Pine Brook Park. Groundbreaking for this project will begin this month and the SAL hopes to host a dedication service on September 11, 2018.

   • Council held a second reading for an amendment to the Offenses and Miscellaneous Provisions of Swainsboro’s City Ordinance (Chapter 32), which consists of 911 number display requirements. Police Chief Randy Ellison reported that approximately 35-40 written warnings have been issued, with all but 17 being proactive thus far. After further review, council will adjust the suggested ordinance by adding responsibility costs, fines, and a deadline for written warnings to be corrected. A first hearing for the newly adjusted ordinance will be held at a later date.
