Funeral services for John Richard Chavis, 58, of Swainsboro were held Friday, August 10, 2018, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Arthur Conley officiating. Interment followed at Eastbrook Cemetery and Mausoleum. He died following an extended illness on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at his resigned under the care of Southern Care Hospice with his loved ones by his side.
Mr. John Richard Chavis was born on January 26, 1960, in Swainsboro to the late William Chavis Sr. and Christine Wilcher Chavis. He was employed by Handi house Manufacturing for 33 years before becoming disabled in 2015. Chavis enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jimmy Chavis; step-daughter, Loretta Conley Sanchez; and great-granddaughter, Adilynn Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Jean Brown Chavis; step-daughters, Lisa (Steve) Hooks, Roxanne (Jay) Gay of Norristown, and Rebecca (Kris) Fletcher of Rentz; brothers, William (Wanda) Chavis Jr., Jerry Chavis of Augusta, and Michael Chavis of Vidalia; sister, Bonnie (Darrel) Chavis of Adrian; grandchildren, Darrell Martin, Amber Gay, Brandon (Brooke) Gay, Kelsey (Matt Giles) Gay, Jayson Gay, Jace Gay, Carlos Conley, Megan Conley, and Wesley (Jessica) Carter; great-grandchildren, Kingston Gay, Lakelynn Gay, and Raelynn Carter; and a host of several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Pallbearers were Franklin Brown, Wayne Coxwell, Darrell Martin Jr., Christopher Hooks, Jerry Cox Jr., and Mitchell Conley.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of the arrangements.
