Camp Invention come to Kiwanis

   The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Catered Creations with President Jim Clapham presiding. There were 21 members in attendance and one guest, Jean Schwabe.

   The program for the evening was hosted by Deana Patrick, whom Cheryl Goodman stood in for to introduce Jean Schwabe, director of Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center on East Georgia State College’s Swainsboro campus. Schwabe presented a program on Camp Invention, a week-long summer program for grades 3-6 sponsored by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The camp utilizes local instructors to enhance science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills. A total of 324 local students have participated in the program since it began at the Fulford Center in 2012. The 50 students chosen for the program in 2018 were provided scholarships by Nordson Corporation and the Mill Creek Foundation.
