President Lee Smith of the Brier Creek Chapter and Registrar Dess Smith III of the Wiregrass Chapter traveled to Barnesville on Saturday, July 28, at 10 a.m. to attend the GASSAR’s board of management meeting. Approximately 125 statewide members attended the quarterly gathering, and Georgia Society President Donald Burdick presided.

Aside from tending to GASSAR business, Burdick presented medals, certificates, and awards from the 128th National Society Congress held in July in Houston, Texas.

Registrar Dess Smith III received his fourth Liberty Medal Certificate and two Oak Leaf Clusters in recognition of outstanding service by way of recruiting new members into the SAR during the past year. In the past five years, he has sponsored approximately 83 members into the GASSAR.

The GASSAR board of management also approved the purchase of insurance to cover any member of the GASSAR that is participating in the firing of flintlocks and cannons during any event this year.
