Funeral services for Alton Claxton, 72, of Kite were held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Mintons Chapel Advent Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. with Reverends Burton Dixon and Bob Rathburn officiating. Interment followed at Mintons Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery. He passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Serenity Place following an extended illness.
Mr. Claxton was born August 27, 1945 in Kite to the late Clifford Claxton and Juanita Tapley Claxton. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and he enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, woodworking, and anything outdoors. Claxton loved his grandchildren. He was a member of V.F.W. Swainsboro and the American Legion of Wrightsville. Claxton was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Claxton.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gloria Greenway Claxton of Kite; daughter, Drucilla Lee (Steve) Peebles of Kite; son, Ron (Karen) Claxton of Kite; brothers, Jimmy (Barb) Claxton of Kite, Billy (Annette) Claxton of Wrightsville, Otis (Marie) Claxton of Tennille, and Clifford (Susan) Claxton Jr. of Wrightsville; sisters, Gail Johnson of Canoochee and Kay Hall and Debra Lawson, both of Swainsboro, Stacie (Kevin) Marsh of Kite and Peggy (Al) Hurst of Canoochee; sister-in-law, Patricia Claxton of Kite; grandchildren, Dustin Peebles, Christopher Peebles, Emma Kate Peebles, Anna Claxton, Amanda Claxton, and Cameron Claxton; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Claxton Jr., Keith Claxton, Trey Claxton, Clifford Claxton III, Jason Martin, Zeb Hurst, and Clint Rowland. Honorary pallbearers were Georgia Kaolin Imerys.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice, 520 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin, Ga. 31021.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
