Funeral services for Alice Elizabeth Stroud Thompson, 87, of Greenwood, South Carolina, will be held Thursday, August 2, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Todd McCoy and Bryan Bult officiating. Interment will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park. The family is at the home of Donna and Ned Johnson, 224 Frazier Rd., Ninety Six, South Carolina, and will receive friends at ht funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018. She passed away on July 29, 2018, at the Hospice House of Greenwood.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Emanuel County on April 17, 1931, to Dessie Eugene and Martha Smith Stroud. Thompson attended Swainsboro high school, and was the wife of the late William “Bill” Marsh Thompson. She was a homemaker, who nurtured and loved many young lives in her home daycare for 20-plus years. Thompson loved cooking and was especially known for her pimento cheese and vegetable soup. She took much pride in caring for her organic garden and yard that she and her husband created together. Her passion was caring for people. Thompson was a member of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Greenwood, South Carolina, where she also nurtured young lives.
Survivors include daughters, Marsha (Larry) Campbell of Anderson, South Carolina, Donna Lynn (Ned) Johnson of Ninety Six, South Carolina, and Robin (Ron) White of Greenwood, South Carolina; grandchildren: Laura (Peter) Huber of Winston- Salem, North Carolina, Katilyn (James) Poore of Greer, South Carolina, and Matthew White of West Columbia, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, twin boys Philip Wade and Abel Myers Huber; brother, Eugene (Judy) Stroud of McDonough; sister, Mary Frances Singletary of Swainsboro; her family by choice: daughter, Lynne Moore Scoggins of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Whitney (Neil) Butler of Charleston, South Carolina, Leigh (Hugh) Scott of McClellanville, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Elliott and Bratton Butler, and Grier, Bo, and Sarah Scott; and a host of many beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Lyndon Singletary, Bradley Singletary, Dwight Singletary, David Stroud, Brian Stroud, Thompson Skeen, Tremaine Skeen, and Jim Serrian. Honorary pallbearers will be David Skeen and Richard Sirianni.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646, or to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1741, Greenwood, SC 29648.
