Pictured are Roy Riddle, general manager of Swainsboro Wendy’s Restaurant, and April Brown, assistant general manager of the same institution, presenting a $500 check to Ashley Hooks, coach of Swainsboro High School’s baseball team. The proceeds of the donation will help to sponsor the Wendy’s Invitational Tournament during the upcoming season.
In return, Hooks donated two baseball jerseys for display in the store to show support for the Tigers. Once the jerseys are hung, lettering reading, “Welcome to Tiger Den” will be added.
When asked what led him to give back to the community in this particular way, Riddle said his personal love for baseball as well as the franchise’s passion for America’s pastime prompted the decision to donate. One of Riddle’s sons is a shift leader at Wendy’s, and he suits up for the baseball Tigers. Riddle’s other son played baseball during his time at Swainsboro High, too. In addition, Riddle has known Hooks for a “long time” and wants to see SHS athletics prosper; he has plans to donate to the SHS football program as well.
