For the second time in a week, a motor vehicle crash has resulted from a tire failure.
On July 9,  a Ford F-150 was southbound on U.S. Highway 1 in the vicinity of Bird Flanders Road when the tread on the rear tire separated from the tire body.
This was not a blow-out but a fully inflated tire now on its side walls and steel belts. This caused the driver to loss control, swerve into the grassy shoulder and overturn. The driver was uninjured, however the vehicle sustained heavy damage.
This is the same situation that occurred last week on I-16 that injured a mother and her two children.
The Traffic Unit from the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
You have probably heard the phase, “Where the rubber meets the road.” When you are riding in a motor vehicle, your life is dependent on the condition of your tires. Being “tire wise” is essential to safe driving. The only thing between you and the road are your tires. TireWise provides drivers with information about buying tires, tire maintenance and labeling, aging, fuel efficiency, and tire retailers. TireWise is also a resource for tire manufacturers, sellers, and other partners to provide essential information to consumers for choosing and caring for their tires. Further information is available at https://www.nhtsa.gov/document/tirewise-safety-information.
