SECRD 12U girls advance to state

   After winning the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) Class A/B State Softball Tournament held June 22-26, Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department’s (SECRD) 12-and-under (12U) girls all-star team will advance to state to compete for the title on July 10-12 at Diamond Lakes Regional Park in Augusta. Swainsboro-Emanuel will kick off the tournament facing the District 2 runner-up team at 2 p.m. on July 10.

   The team began district tournament play on June 22 with a 16-0 win over Effingham County. Losing to Lyons the following day 4-3, the local 12U all-stars came back to defeat Dublin-Laurens 16-0 on June 25. Swainsboro-Emanuel began play on June 26 and defeated teams Lyons 4-0 and Vidalia 15-5. The team faced Vidalia for a second round in the championship game on June 26 and were victorious again, 10-2.

   Players include Mary Day Elsenrath, Claire English, Jaylin Hall, Jocie Hendrix, Savannah Hooks, Hannah Howard, Brianna Parks, Callie Powell, Emma Proctor, Shayla Stephenson, Raegan Thompson, Caley Wilkerson, and Brianna Wimberly.
   Coaches are Henry Hall and Hugh Hendrix.
