Local sorority chapter supports Alzheimer’s

The ladies of the Nu Upsilon Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. partnered with Lori Chance of the Burke County Recreation Department on June 21 in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Longest Day initiative. All participated in an aerobics class. The purpose of the event was to bring awareness, raise funds, help end Alzheimer’s through research, and to provide support to caregivers.
The sorority members also donated funds to the international team of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. to further show their support to this urgent cause. Several members of the chapter felt a personal connection to this initiative because many had relatives who had succumbed to the disease.
Both Chance and the ladies of Nu Upsilon Omega encourage members of the public to participate or start their own teams with the Alzheimer’s Association next year for their Longest Day event.
