Garfield Community Club meets for July

   The Garfield Community Club recently held its July meeting.
   Vice president Joann Trammell called it to order and led the pledge of allegiance. Song leader Maudine Johnson selected “God Bless America” and “Battle Hymn of Republic” as the hymns.
   Janice Hendley, chaplain, brought the devotion titled “Thunderstorm Thoughts” from a book called “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” The devotion took scripture from Matthew 8:23-24, which told about Jesus Christ calming the sea, and Philippians 4:9, which gave instruction on how to obtain strength through all of life’s storms.
   The assembled recited the club motto, Rose Frew read the club creed, and Ellen Evans read the club objectives. Roll call by Dot Cowart recorded 11 members, and she read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved as presented. The treasurer’s report by Sharon Cowart was also accepted as presented.
   Judy Phillips gave the correspondence report, which included cards sent to Doris Clemens, Dot Cowart, and Sharon Cowart. Phillips noted that she made a visit to Burnease Lane, whose daughter asked that the club as a collective visit. Janice Hendley made a visit of her own, hers to Lenez McLendon and Joann Trammell. Also, Jeanette Johnson’s daughters sent a card of thanks to the club in response to its sending of flowers. In closing, Phillips encouraged all members to visit, send cards, and make phone calls.
   During the business meeting, the club decided to sponsor an information booth at an October festival in Twin City. Additionally, a committee was formed to gather information regarding day trips for club members.
