Clifford Claude McKenzie, 87

   Funeral services for Clifford Claude McKenzie, 87, of Swainsboro were held Friday, July 13, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Elder Mike Gray officiating. Interment followed in the Bithynia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. He died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Pruitt Health and Rehab.

   Mr. Clifford Claude McKenzie was born March 31, 1931, in Summertown to the late George B. and Mattie Harrell McKenzie. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was later employed by the Emanuel County Animal Control for more than 25 years. McKenzie was a lifelong member of Bithynia Primitive Baptist Church, was a deacon, and loved fishing, farming, and raising cows. His family said he never met a stranger and claimed to never have had an enemy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ruth Gulledge, eight sisters, and six brothers.

   Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, Ruth Robertson McKenzie; two sons, Roberts Lee “Bo” (Connie) McKenzie of Dublin and Ricky Robertson; son-in-law, Wayne Gulledge of Swainsboro; brother, Herman (Janet) McKenzie of St. Petersburg, Florida; five grandchildren, Pam (Kyle Scott) Hutcheson, Josh (Michelle) Robertson, Melissa (Jeff Farmer) Gulledge, Joe (Michelle) Bedgood, and Alan Howard; three great-grandchildren, Pvt. Austin Hutcheson, Emily Hutcheson, and Jenna Farmer; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

   Pallbearers were Frank McKenzie, Tommy Henry, Earl Conrad, Tyler Dawkins, Sonny Hudson, and Chuck Dawkins. Honorary pallbearers were the Primitive Baptist elders and deacons.

   Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
