Betty Whalen Claxton, 72

   Funeral services for Betty Whalen Claxton, 72, of Swainsboro were held Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Union Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Sam Bowen and Tommy Rountree officiating. Interment followed in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. She passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Savannah Hospice House following an extended illness.
   Mrs. Betty Whalen Claxton was born March 23, 1946, in McRae to the late James H. Whalen and Vera Wiley Whalen. She owned and operated Claxton Insurance Agency with her late husband. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and watching Nicholas Sparks movies. Claxton always looked forward to birthdays and Christmas. She attended Union Primitive Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Claxton; one brother; and three sisters.
   Survivors include her daughters, Melanie (Johnny) Sellers of Hazlehurst, Karen (David) Underwood of Atlanta, Laura (Billy) Tompkins of Helen, Julie (Andy) Love of Bloomingdale, and Jill (Tom) Usher of Savannah; son, Norman (Regina) Sandiford of Lumber City; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
   Pallbearers were Matthew Kirkland, Brylon Sandiford, Tom Usher, Andy Love, Cullin Brison, Will Hulette, David Snooks, Matt Crouch, Jonathan Underwood, and Mat Tompkins.

   Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
