Funeral services for Bettie Jane Williams Fountain, 89, of Adrian were held Friday, July 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Adrian United Methodist Church with Reverends Tommy Veal and Mark Harden officiating. Interment followed in the Hutcheson Cemetery, where she was laid to rest, privately, beside her husband. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, July 11, 2018, at Scott Health and Rehabilitation Center in Scott.
Mrs. Bettie Jane Williams Fountain was born in Johnson County to the late Cleveland and Fleeta Pullen Williams. She was the youngest and last living of seven children. After graduating from high school in Kite, Class of 1946, she attended Brewton Parker College and Georgia Southern, from where she obtained her bachelors degree in elementary education. Fountain began her career as a first grade teacher in 1950 in Hoboken. In October 1950, she married Robert Quincy Fountain Sr. She later taught in Scott and Adrain, retired in 1981 after 30 years. Fountain enjoyed teaching, gardening, flowers, working outdoors, fishing, cooking, and above all, being a grandmother. She will be well-remembered for her pound cakes. Fountain was a member of Minton’s Chapel Advent Christian Church in Kite and Adrian United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she war preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fountain Sr., who passed away in March of 1999; and siblings, infant Carl Williams, Carlton Williams, Ray Williams, Louise Greenway, Louie Williams, and Jack Williams.
Survivors include sons, Robert Fountain Jr. of Adrian and J. David (Kathie Morgan) Fountain of Matthews, North Carolina; two adoring granddaughters, Brooke Fountain of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Kelli Fountain of Matthews, North Carolina; and a host of numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Burl Page, Joe Williams, Jim Dekle, John Webb, Larry Hutchinson, and Charlie Fountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adrian United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 267, Adrian, GA 31002 or to Minton’s Chapel Church, 1036 Minton Chapel Road, Kite, GA 31049.
Sammons Funeral Home of Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
