Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department’s (SECRD) 12-and-under (12U) girls all-star softball team competed in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Class A/B Fastpitch Softball Tournament on July 10-12. Held at Diamond Lakes Regional Park in Augusta, SECRD saw a runner-up finish, completing the tournament with a 4–2 record.
The girls started play on Tuesday, July 10, beating South Bryan 9-1.
The following day, SECRD’s all-stars played a tripleheader, dropping a close game with Troup County 12-11 before beating Wayne County 10-2 and Vidalia 10-9.
Swainsboro-Emanuel played its final two games July 12, rectifying its Tuesday loss by winning a rematch with Troup County, 14-1, to put the local team in the championship game later that day. Unfortunately, SECRD’s state title run came to an end in a one-run affair with Lyons, 9-8, solidifying Swainsboro-Emanuel’s second place finish.
Team members were Mary Day Elsenrath, Claire English, Jaylin Hall, Jocie Hendrix, Savannah Hooks, Hannah Howard, Brianna Parks, Callie Powell, Emma Proctor, Shayla Stephenson, Raegan Thompson, Caley Wilkerson and Brianna Wimberly. Coaches were Henry Hall, Hugh Hendrix, and Chuck Wimberly.
