Swainsboro welcomed seven other 12U Dixie Youth baseball teams—Thomaston, Seminole County, Troup County, Irwin County, Schley County, West Augusta, and Wrens— to the Wyatt Rich Complex last week for the state tournament. Pool play began Friday, July 6, and continued onto Saturday.
The top four teams from last weekend (Wrens, Troup County, Seminole, and Swainsboro) will return to the facility on Empire Expressway this Friday, July 13, and Saturday, July 14, to battle it out for a berth to the Dixie Youth Majors World Series, with Swainsboro being first seat in pool.
The local boys went 3-0 last weekend, beating Wrens 19-0, Seminole 5-4, and Schley 8-2 to advance to bracket play. They will take on Troup County at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The community is invited to come out and support them. Admission is $10. Children wearing league jerseys to the event will receive free admission. The team encourages all to come and support them as they battle their way to the World Series.
Should Swainsboro win their matchups this weekend, they will go on to represent Georgia in the World Series, slated for August 4-9 in Lumberton, North Carolina.
Team members include Brandon Chapman, Tucker Bush, Richard Braddy, Ashton Deloach, Kason Palmer, Andrew Chalkley, River Greene, Gabe Conley, Jacob Durden, Bailey Womack, Lenox Lively, and Cody Parks. Coaches are Heath Palmer, Billy Chapman, and Jess Bush.
