10U girls softball team headed to state

   The 10-and-under (10U) girls softball team from Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department (SECRD) will represent District 1 in the 2018 Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) State 10 and Under Girls Class A/B Softball Tournament at Springfield’s Clarence E. Morgan Complex on July 10-12. Hosted by Effingham County Recreation and Parks, SECRD will play its first game on July 10 at 5 p.m. against District 3 champions.

   The 10U girls qualified for state after a runner-up finish at district tournament held June 23-27 in Effingham County. They began tournament play by defeating Thomson-McDuffie 24-1 on opening day, but lost their name game to Lyons 13-6. The local all-stars came back with three wins on June 26, defeating Vidalia 13-7, Effingham County 13-5, and Rincon 6-5. They faced Lyons in the final game of the tournament and lost 15-6, making Lyons district champions and solidifying Swainsboro-Emanuel’s runner-up finish.

   Team members are Kyli Bell, Kayla Crabb, Clara Beth Elsenrath, Zada Ely, Charissa Hall, Henzli Hall, Cassidy Jordan, Dakota Mason, Aacaylah Murphy, Jenna Grace Roberson, Lola Walden, and Bylie Womack. Coaches are Toni Bell and Joni Hall.
