The Rotary Club of Swainsboro recently held its June 21 installation banquet at McKinney’s Pond close to Midville. Al Lawson Jr. welcomed everyone to the dinner. Kenny Griffin gave the invocation, and Richard McNeely led the pledge and the Four-Way Test.

Gail Ware presented the Rotarian of the Year awards for 2018 to John Allen Bailey and Lawson. Ware thanked both men for their time, work, and dedication to the Rotary Club of Swainsboro. Lawson added that in lieu of receiving plaques this year, he and Bailey chose to honor some of the club’s senior members with service awards. Lawson recognized Nick Herrington for his service since becoming a Rotary member in 1955 and acknowledged Billy McNeely for his service and compassion for everyone. The final tribute for years of service was presented in memory of the late Rotarian, Jim Curry. Accepting the award in memory of his years of service to Rotary was Mrs. Cherry Curry. Each years of service recipient received a crystal plaque in honor of their service above self.

Introduced next were new officers and directors. Officers include the following: Cason DeVane, president; Kristin Hall, president-elect; John Allen Bailey, secretary; Wade Johnson, treasurer; Richard McNeely, sergeant of arms. Board of directors include the following: Greg Johnson, Gail Ware, Vernon Hardy, and Dori Johnson. Lawson thanked them for serving and presented each officer with an engraved mug with the Rotary emblem filled with fresh cut flowers. Lawson provided an overview of accomplishments and service projects made by the Rotary Club during the past year. Assistant Governor of Georgia Rotary Greg Hudgins delivered the oath of office to Cason DeVane, the new president of the Rotary Club of Swainsboro. DeVane stated he was proud and honored to serve.  DeVane’s goal is to obtain new members who are committed to service.
