The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. at Catered Creations with President Jim Clapham presiding. In attendance were 25 members.

The program for the evening was hosted and presented by Deana Patrick. Patrick, a part-time, retired employee at Franklin Memorial Public Library, talked about the library’s summer program. She explained that the program is more than just a summer reading program, as it offers activities for all ages. Programs include Toddler Time for ages birth to 3-years-old on Thursdays at 10 a.m., programs for first to fifth graders on Tuesdays at 10 a.m., Teen Craft Programs for students in grades 6-12 on Thursdays at 2 p.m., and an Adult Summer Reading Program on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. A special program, Veteran’s Coffee, is also held on a weekly basis on Monday mornings.

Toddler Time includes a craft program, and the first to fifth grade program, which is held at the Vann Community Center, hosts magicians, jugglers, and wildlife programs. The theme of the program this year is music, and “Libraries Rock” is the program title.
After Patrick’s spiel, Chair Gary Couse gave an update on the Herrington Homestead Cookout scheduled for June 14. The club will be providing pizza for the staff and children of the Herrington Homestead.

Chair Frank Patrick then reminded all about the cookout for the Summer Reading Program at the library on June 26.
