Golden Pines reunion donates to Dixie Theatre

   As final acts of the planning committee for the recent Golden Pines Reunion, committee members presented a check to the Historic Dixie Theatre Renovation Committee on Wednesday, June 20, for the purchase of a center seat location. Growing up in Swainsboro, many have spent numerous Saturday and Sunday afternoons at “The Dixie” watching cartoons and movies starring Mickey and Donald, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Elvis Presley, and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler.   

   The 73rd Annual Swainsboro Pine Tree Festival on May 4-5, was the perfect time for Swainsboro High School Classes of 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, and 1964 to celebrate. The Golden Pines Reunion attracted 95 members of the five classes, along with spouses and guest from southeastern states of Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina as well as one who traveled from New York State.

   Friday evening, May 4, classmates were invited to a lawn party at the home of Gail Smith McRae, hosted by McRae and the Class of 1964. The beautiful evening afforded them an opportunity to renew acquaintances and friendships of 50-plus years. The group also to attend the downtown music festival, which consisted of variety of bands, including The Swinging Medallions.
