Starbird, Hodor win 2018 Knotty Pine 5K

On the morning of May 5, a total of 67 runners participated in 18th annual running of the Knotty Pine 5K and Fun Run. The events took place in downtown Swainsboro, with the start and finish at the corner of Green Street and Moring Street. Parking was permitted at Ellington Insurance. Registration for the races began at 6:30 a.m., with the official start of the 5K was at 8 a.m., and the Fun Run began at 9 a.m.
The 5K route began west on Moring Street, turning right about 1.4 miles later onto Arden Drive, and right again at the corner of Arden Drive and Highway 80. The final turns included a right on Roberts Street and a left to finish at Moring Street. It was a nice, warm day in Swainsboro for the race. The 5K and Fun Run were sponsored by the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, who provided logistics and support.
The first place overall winner in the 5K male division was Ethan Starbird of Richmond Hill, with a time of 19 minutes and 9 seconds, while the first place master’s winner was Brendan Vasher, also from Richmond Hill, with a time of 19 minutes and 38 seconds.
The overall winners in the female division were Amber Hodor of Macon, first place overall with a time of 23 minutes and 18 seconds, and Tara Johnson of Peachtree City, first place in the master’s with a time of 29 minutes and 29 seconds.
