Sara Cate Fennell, sixth-grade student at David Emanuel Academy, was recently named the Emanuel County winner in the Georgia Farm Bureau Middle School Essay contest held in February. She has also been recognized as the District 7 and Georgia state winner.  Fennell received a cash prize for each win.

The contest is sponsored by Emanuel County Women’s committee each year to stimulate students’ interest in agriculture and the vital role it plays in society.

The topic this year was “What are the Benefits of School Gardens?” DEA has several gardens on campus and many classes participate in planting and caring for the vegetables and flowers.

Sara Cate is the daughter of Teah Fennell.
