Bulldogs’ season ends in Elite 8

   The ECI Bulldogs advanced to the Elite 8 of the state playoffs last week, losing the best-of-three series to Irwin County in Ocilla.
   ECI continued in the state playoffs last Monday and Tuesday, defeating Commerce in the second round.
   The Bulldogs lost the first game to the Tigers Monday in a pitcher’s duel 2-0. There were just five total hits during the game, two for ECI and three for Commerce. Both runs for Commerce were unearned.
   The Bulldogs got off the deck and won the second game 7-4 Monday and the deciding third game on Tuesday 8-7.
   The Tigers were not going to let leadoff Peyton Mercer beat them at the plate. During the 3-game series, the region homerun leader (with 13 at the time) only batted three times and was intentionally walked the rest of his plate appearances.
   Mercer also started the game for ECI, allowing just three hits with six strikeouts.
   A single by Chandler Shockley and a double by Evan Durden were the only hits for the Bulldogs in the first game.
