Master Sgt. James Rufus Mincey, 73

Funeral services for Master Sgt. James Rufus Mincey, 73, of California were held Monday, April 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Church of Los Banos, California. Interment followed with full military honors at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, California. He passed away March 29, 2018, at the VA Palo Alto Hospital in Palo Alto, California.
Mr. James Rufus Mincey was born on June 20, 1944, in Swainsboro to the late Tobie and Katie Mincey. He graduated from Emanuel County Elementary and High School in 1960. Mincey joined the United States Army in 1965 and served for 26 years. He was reitred in 1991, achieving the rank of master sergeant. After retiring from the military, Mincey began work for Conway Western Express (CWX) as a truck driver and retired in 2009 after 18 years. He married Shigeko Kyan in 1969 in Okinawa, Japan. They were happily married for 49 years. Mincey enjoyed traveling, barbecuing, spending time with his family, and was a huge Golden State Warriors fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother, Wilber.
Survivors include his spouse, Shigeko of Marina, California; children, Teresa (Sadrudin) Nasir of Hohensfels, Germany, Gilbert (Ghenna) of Yokosuka, Japan, and Alicia, James, and Terry of Marina, California; brothers, Floyd (Barbara) of Soperton and Norman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters, Jean Noble of Soperton and Marjorie White of Summertown; and grandchildren, James, Imani, Isa, Naima, Eli, Sidney, and Kiyan.
Pallbearers were the United States Military Honor Guard.
