Funeral services for Charles L. Mason, 90, of Swainsboro were held Sunday, April 15, 2018, at 4 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating. Interment was held at Swainsboro City Cemetery. He passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin.
Mr. Charles L. Mason was born August 3, 1927, in Kite, Johnson County, to the late Leonard and Myrtle Snell Mason. He was a World War II Navy veteran and retired as captain from the Army National Guard. Mason was a farmer and an insurance agent. He also worked with the Child Support Recovery Unit and was a special investigator for the Middle Judicial Circuit’s district attorney’s office. Mason attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Swainsboro First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ann Mason Sumner, and three brothers, Fred G. Mason, James B. Mason, and Joe L. Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Robbie Tanner Mason of Swainsboro; two sons, Charles Edward “Chuck” (Sandra) Mason of Statesboro and Shannon Jack Mason of Swainsboro; one sister, Peggy Mason (Lloyd) Price of Covena; one brother, Jack D. (Ann) Mason of Beach Island, South Carolina; and two grandchildren, Chet Mason and Trevor Mason.
Pallbearers were Tim Mason, Stewart Mason, Cliff Mason, Bobby Mason, Jason Wiley, Freddie G. Mason Jr., Eric Hammock, Kevin Tanner, and Leonard Mason.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made in his memory to the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, Hospice Unit in Dublin.
Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
