Funeral services for William James “Jim” Curry, 78, of Swainsboro were held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Swainsboro First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Unkles and Rev. Wayne DeFore officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dellwood. He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Mr. William James “Jim” Curry was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Dublin, Laurens County, to the late Marion Dunaway and Ella Mae Garrett Curry. He lived the majority of his life in Swainsboro and graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1957, serving as president of his class. Curry later attended Georgia Southern, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration and was a member of Kappa Phi Kappa. Curry was co-owner/operator of Badcock Home Furnishing (formerly The Home Shop) for more than 40 years. He served on the Board of First Federal Saving and Loan, and he was a member of both Rotary International and Gideons International. Curry was also an active member of Swainsboro First United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and a member of the Leroy Williams Sunday school class.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cherry Kea Curry of Swainsboro; one son, Marc D. (Kerry) Curry of Swainsboro; two grandchildren, Lynnsey R. Curry (Ashley) Denney and Cassidy LeElla Curry; and several close cousins and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donation be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 365, Swainsboro, GA, 30401; First United Methodist Church, 319 W. Mains St., Swainsboro, GA 30401; or VFW Lanier/Moore Post 5745, 103 Oak Chapel Rd., Kite, GA, 31049.
Pallbearers were Johnny Price, Donny Garrett, Hal Hall, Bill Price, Aaron Clark, John Torpy, Ashley Denney, and Joey Hood. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Leroy Williams Sunday school class and Greg Newsome.
Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
