Roy Gene Hopkins, 71

   Funeral services for Roy Gene Hopkins, 71, of Kite were held in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 with Reverends Morris Brantley and Arthur Conley officiating. Interment followed in the Minton Chapel Advent Church Cemetery. He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at Lakeside Retirement Home following an extended illness.

   Mr. Roy Gene Hopkins was born August 28, 1946, in Swainsboro to Charlie Morris Hopkins Sr. and Maybelle Stapleton Hopkins. He worked in construction all of his life and was of the Baptist Faith. Hopkins enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jody Troy Hopkins; sisters, Loree Hopkins Kight and Ruby Hopkins Garnto; brothers, Johnny Hopkins, Albert Hopkins, Lamar Hopkins, and Charlie Morris Hopkins Jr.

   Survivors include his daughter, Joni Hopkins (Gary) McDaniel of Soperton; son, Jeremy (Frances) Hopkins of Kite; sister, Shirley Hopkins Hollis of Enigma; brother, Edward (Trannie) Hopkins of Swainsboro; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

   Pallbearers were Nathan McDaniel, Charles Akridge, Cody Hopkins, Gary Lindsey, Matt Murry, and Terrance Sellars

   Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of the arrangements.
