Mattie Evelyn Marsh Screws, 85

   Funeral services for Mattie Evelyn Marsh Screws, 85, of Swainsboro were held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Reverends Earl Warnock and Morris Brantley officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. She passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at Pruitt Health of Swainsboro following an extended illness.

   Mrs. Mattie Evelyn Marsh Screws was born August 20, 1932, in Emanuel County to the late Andrew Hartwell Marsh and Sallie Pearl Walker Marsh. She was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County, and she enjoyed listening to preaching and talk shop on the radio. Screws worked for more than 11 years at Creston as a seamstress. She loved caring for her family, cooking, and birdwatching. Screws was a godly, Christian woman and was a member of Wadley Church of God. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Screws Sr.; son, Arthur Screws Jr.; brothers, Edward Marsh and Melton Marsh; grandson, Ray Thomas Black Jr; and granddaughter, Leigh Wolfrey.
   Survivors include her son, Steve (Donna) Screws of Metter; daughters, Mary (Gary) Woods of Swainsboro, Betty (Tommy) Whitener of Hepzibah, and Janice Black of Swainsboro; brother, Bobby (Irene) Marsh of Sevierville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
   Pallbearers were her grandsons.
   Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
