Construction begins on Historic Dixie Theatre renovation

The renovation of the Historic Dixie Theatre is finally entering its next act as construction begins on the project. Passersby have noticed the closure of North Green Street over the last several days as construction crews have worked to demolish the old sidewalks within the block and replace worn water lines that will service the theater and surrounding businesses.
The next step in the renovation process, which is expected to begin in the coming week, will involve the removal of the stone veneer that was added to the theater’s façade in the 1950s, followed by the construction of a new plaza in front of the theater, a crosswalk connecting the theater to the parking area located behind City Hall, and new sidewalks that will line the remainder of the street within the block.
