Mayor and Council sworn in by Judge Wilkes

   The city council and mayor of Swainsboro gathered Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at 6 p.m. at Swainsboro City Hall for their monthly meeting.

   This particular meeting was one of the year’s finest to attend as Probate Court Judge Don Wilkes was present for the swearing in of Mayor Charles Schwabe and city council members Johnny Ray Stafford, Rita Faulkner, and Bobbie Collins.

   Upon completion, council ratified the 2017 city election. Both Faulkner and Stafford were selected by other members of council to serve as mayor pro tem. Stafford revoked himself from the running, insisting Faulkner take the role. The final motion was made by John Parker, seconded by Stafford, and approved unanimously.

   The mayor then appointed council to their respective committees, which were as follows: Stafford, police department; Collins, administrative; Faulkner, water and waste water; Julian Sconyers, fire department; Parker, public works; and Sue Bragg, recreation department.
