The Rotary Club of Swainsboro held its January 29, 2018 meeting at Catered Creations in Swainsboro. Al Lawson welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order. Lawson announced that Pinetucky Meats won the small business of the year award at the annual Chamber Banquet. Lawson proudly reported that one of our own Rotarians, Denny Key, was honored as Citizen of the Year. Denny received a well-deserved round of applause.
Mitchell Fagler gave the invocation and Stephanie Fagler led the pledge and Rotary Four-Way Test. Rotarians welcomed guests Carter Meadows, Doug Wren, and Carmen Tanner to the meeting.
The Rotary member profile was Vernon Hardy. Vernon was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. He received the Masters degree from Georgia Southern University. Hardy has taught and served in various administrative positions in the Emanuel County Schools System. He is a retired educator. Vernon married in May 2017 to the former Miriam Fagler whom he says is the woman “making him a better man”. Vernon and Miriam Hardy have five wonderful grandchildren.
Cason Devane introduced Marty Ray who presented facts about the Georgia HEART Hospital Program and gave an update on the impact it has had on the Emanuel Medical Center. Marty stressed the importance of keeping taxes local utilizing the Georgia HEART program.
