Rotary District Governor Visits Swainsboro Rotarians

The Rotary Club of Swainsboro held its December 4, 2017 meeting at Catered Creations in Swainsboro.
The meeting was dedicated to the visiting 2017-2018 Rotary District Governor, Hamsa Thota. Accompanying Mr. Thota on his visit to Swainsboro Rotary was Eugenia Powell, Rotary Assistant Governor.
Mr. Thota shared with the group that he “got hooked” in community involvement and service through working with a long time Rotarian almost 40 years ago at the Rotary Club of St. Simons Island. Thota grew up in a small coastal town named Chirala on the shores of the Bay of Bengal in Southeast India. His business in innovation management training and consulting to help customers develop new products and services with sustained organizational growth. He is joys tennis, mediation and a form of Yoga that combines relaxation and physical exercise. His favorite book is “Doing Good in the World,” the inspiring story of the Rotary Foundation’s first 100 years. Thota’s favorite quote is, “I do good everyday with love and compassion and the Lord will do good by my children.” It reminds him to count his blessings everyday.
Hamsa Thota holds 10 US patents in food processing and packaging. He conducted an online workshop on innovation “Best Practices” in China that one million people attended. Thota was also a member of the National Innovation Initiative Strategy Council of the US competitive Council. Mr. Thota attended the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedad, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Food Science and Dairy Manufacturing from the University of Georgia.
Thota encouraged The Rotary Club of Swainsboro to engage in an Entrepreneurship Project by working with local schools in creating and supporting student programs that foster the entrepreneur spirit, characterized by innovative, creative and problem solving activities.
In sharing his goals for Rotary for 2017-2018, Thota would like to achieve a net gain in Rotary Club members as well as to increase diversity in Rotary. The District Governor challenged Rotarians to bring in a new member and contribute to the Rotary Foundation and to achieve individual “Rotarian Citation” recognition. Thota would like to see 300+ district Rotarians celebrating their achievements in 2018.
