Staff Sergeant Dustin Michael Wright, 29

   Funeral services for Staff Sergeant Dustin Michael Wright, 29, of Lyons were held Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Booster Stadium in Lyons with Pastor Efton Green, Pastor Steven Toole, and Mr. Brian Fitzgerald, Captain Scion Brannah, Mr. Will Wright, and Teresa McCullough officiating. Burial followed in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery with military honors. He died from wounds sustained during combat operations in Niger, Africa, on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017.

   Staff Sergeant Dustin Michael Wright was born in Toombs County and was a 2007 graduate of Toombs County High School in Lyons. He attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro and Fayetteville State University. Prior to his military service, Sergeant Wright was a partner of Southern Rain Control with his papa, Rick Grisham. He later assumed sole ownership of the business. However, his desire to continue his family’s military legacy led him to join the United States Army in 2012.

   After graduating from U.S. Army Infantry School, Sergeant Wright completed Army Airborne School training at Fort Benning, followed by completion of the Special Operations Preparation Course (SOPC) in Fort Bragg, N.C. His training continued in Fort Bragg, where he completed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course (SFAS) and culminated in his completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC). Due to his tenacity and commitment, Staff Sergeant Wright earned the status of United States Army Special Forces and was awarded the coveted Green Beret in 2014. He was serving his third deployment.

   Sergeant Wright was preceded in death by his grandfather, Larry Trull; great-grandparents, Charlie Hugh and Lillian Rustin, Arnold Edgar Wright Sr., and Thaddeus and Dorothy Williamson; and an uncle, Avery Toole.

   Survivors include his father, Arnold Edgar “Ardie” Wright of Lyons; his mother, Terri Trull (A.J.) Criscio of Brunswick; four brothers, Arnold Edgar “Little Ardie” Wright IV, William Charles “Will” Wright, Zachariah Douglas “Zach” Wright, all of Lyons, and Steven Criscio of Easton, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Sue Rustin Grisham and “Eddie” (Elaine) Wright Jr., all of Santa Claus; maternal grandmother, Elaine Williamson Trull of the Normantown Community; paternal great-grandmother, Helen Wright; aunts, Teresa (Robin) McCullough of Vidalia, Ginger (Justin) Russell of Normantown, Michelle Oglesby of Lyons, and Diana (Joseph) Phillips of Kentucky; uncles, Rustin Wright of Lyons and Jeffery E. Wright of Statesboro; and several great-aunts, several great-uncles, numerous cousins, and friends.

   Honorary pallbearers were Josh Poole, William Wright, Trent Young, Dusty Young, Alton Bass, Laramie Wright, David Pittman, Brandon Wilson, and Robbie McCullough.

   Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of arrangements.
