Funeral services for J.L. Lumpkin, 75, of Adrian were held Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Ricky Downs and Reverend Jack Stafford officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. He passed away Thursday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2017, at Fairview Park Hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. J.L. Lumpkin was born July 23, 1942, in Swainsboro to the late Morris Lumpkin and Elenora Atkinson Lumpkin. He was the owner and operator of Lumpkin’s Carpentry. He loved animals, fishing, and dirt track racing. Lumpkin was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Lumpkin; sister, Betty Ann Morrison; and brother, Roy Lumpkin.
Survivors include his son, James L. (Paula) Lumpkin of St. George, S.C.; daughter, Patricia (Ricky) Beck of Adrian; brothers, Eddie (Margie) Lumpkin, Jimmy (Patricia) Lumpkin, Johnny Lumpkin, and Fred Lumpkin, all of Adrian; grandchildren, James Keith Lumpkin, Allan Beck, Savannah Beck, and Steven Lumpkin; special grandchild, Anthony Lumpkin; dog, Buddy; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers were Gary Smith, Stephen Smith, Jerry Hall, Greg Evans, Jeffery Downs, and John Atkinson.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
