Funeral services for Jimmie “Jim” Fields, 80, of Dawsonville were held Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Sanders officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. He passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at Seasons Hospice following a period of declining health.
Born October 28, 1936 in Swainsboro to the late B.J. and Ruby Fields, Mr. Jimmie “Jim” Fields had been a resident of Dawson County since 2002, coming from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He served his country for a number of years in the Army National Guard. He retired from Florida Power and Light after more than 35 years of service and was also involved in the Boy Scouts while in Florida. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Fields was also a member of the Dawsonville Lions Club, a volunteer at the Dawson County Senior Center, and enjoyed working with stained glass and attending craft shows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Remelle W. Fields.
Surviving are his children, Michael Shawn and Debbie Fields, Dawsonville; Lisa Michelle Mortenson; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Mary Virginia “Ginger” Purcell, Swainsboro; brother, Kenneth “Pepper” (Barbara) Fields of Swainsboro; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of arrangements.
