Mattie Agnes Lane Mitchell, 97

   Funeral services for Mattie Agnes Lane Mitchell, 97, were held Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 12 p.m. at Saint Philip Baptist Church with Reverend Samuel Cooper Jr. officiating. She was obedient to God’s call as her earthly work was completed on July 31, 2017.

   Mrs. Mattie Agnes Lane Mitchell was born on August 2, 1919, in Emanuel County to Reverend Ebben and Mrs. Mary Lane. She came to Christ at an early age and served diligently in her family’s church, Lane Chapel AME Church. She later transitioned to Mount Moriah AME Church, where she continued her lifetime of faithful services. She was known by family and close friends as “Tag.” Mitchell enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the school bus and children, looking at her flowers, and being active in the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings, her husband, and two sons, Ebben and Sylvester.

   Survivors include her children, Benjamin Clyde Sr., Bertha, Elizabeth, Jesse, Hohn Henry, Betty, and Marilyn; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the Mount Moriah family.

   Pallbearers were grandsons Benjamin R. Mitchell, Clyde W. Mitchell Jr., Nathaniel Johnson, John F. Mitchell, Eric L. Mitchell, and Byron Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were Sweards and Trustess of New Mount Moriah AME Church.

   Mosley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
