Joyce Smith Lumpkin, 69

   Funeral services for Joyce Smith Lumpkin, 69, of Adrian were held Tuesday, August 29, 2017 in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Reverend Burt Flanders, Reverend Ricky Downs, and Reverend Jack Stafford officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. She passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Joyce Smith Lumpkin was born February 8, 1948 in Charleston, S.C., to the late David H. Smith and Ollie Mae Stafford. She worked several years at N.S.I. in Soperton and worked at Emanuel County Hospital for years in Purchasing and Receiving, where she was Employee of the Year. She was a former Adrian City Council member. Lumpkin loved dirt track racing, and planting and watching her flowers grow. A member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edna Mae Brown, Phyllis Ann Smith, and Vinnie Pearl Smith; brothers, Franklin Smith Jr., Edward Smith, and Charlie Smith. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, J.L. Lumpkin of Adrian; son, James L. (Paula) Lumpkin of St. George, S.C.; daughter, Patricia (Ricky) Beck of Adrian; brother, Jimmy (Martha) Smith of Augusta; sister, Lillian (Lavon) Bishop of Augusta; grandchildren, James Keith Lumpkin, Allan Beck, Savannah Beck, and Steven Lumpkin; special grandchild, Anthony Lumpkin; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were Jerry Hall, Ricky Downs, Greg Evans, Roger McKenzie, Jeff Downs, and Chris Wilkerson. Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of the arrangements.
