Fall festival cancelled

The 2017 downtown Swainsboro fall festival has been cancelled due to scheduled streetscape construction in the downtown area.
Beginning mid-September, the Phase III Downtown Swainsboro Streetscape Project will improve pedestrian accessibility and safety in the downtown area with the installation of new sidewalks, lighting, and street crossings. The project will also include construction on the Boneyard, aimed at improving the accessibility to and usefulness of the space for community gatherings and events.
For the safety of event patrons, the Downtown Development Authority has elected to suspend the fall festival, which is typically held at Patriots Park and The Boneyard, for 2017. The organization and its partners look forward to returning downtown to celebrate the fall season in 2018.
The streetscape project is made possible through funding from a Georgia Department of Transportation TE Grant.
The Swainsboro Christmas Parade will proceed as usual on December 7, beginning on Highway 1 South and ending at the Boneyard. For more information about the Christmas parade, visit cityofswainsboro.org.
