“To give you a future and a hope”

On Friday, May 5, Dianne Lawson, accompanied by husband Al Lawson, traveled to Augusta to attend the 2017 Golden Apple Award Gala. This event was hosted at Augusta University’s Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre by local businesses of Augusta. Guests were delighted by a musical orchestra upon arriving at the black-tie event. Recipients and guests treated themselves to a buffet that consisted of a wide variety of heavy hors d’oeuvres and cake. To add a personal touch to this event, recipients were honored with each of their names being inscripted upon a three-tier-high, decorated, fondant cake.
WJBF, along with other Connect 6 teams, aligned with Kroger, Master Automotive, and Augusta Flooring to honor recipients for their commitment of educating the youth society throughout the years.
Sponsors and presenters were superintendents from school districts. During the program, clips of the nominees’ interviews were played in groups of 3-4 at a time before presenting each nominee with their award.
Throughout the 2016-2017 school year, Dianne was nominated as an educator who believes in the true spirit of teaching.
