The Brier Creek Chapter, Georgia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting Thursday, July 6, at R & D’s Restaurant at 7 p.m. with Chaplain Lee Smith presiding in the absence of President Craig Wildi. Twelve members were joined by five guests.

After the invocation by Chaplain Smith, a meal was served by the restaurant’s employees, after which Smith beckoned forward Wayne Howard, who was installed as the 25th member of the Brier Creek Chapter. Howard was given the SAR pledge, his Certificate of Membership, and an SAR rosette. Howard is a descendant of Patriot Hezekiah Howard.

Chaplain Smith then introduced Compatriot Ruskin Powell, a dual member of the Brier Creek Chapter. Powell presented the evening’s program focused on Elijah Clarke and his family.

After the program, Compatriot Tommy Christopher gave the chapter a report on several members whom were traveled to the Coastal Boy Scout Camp located in Screven County on three different days earlier this month programs on items used during the American Revolution.
