Grant in the works for airport

     At its latest meeting held July 3, the Swainsboro City Council agreed to do its part to acquire a sizable grant for the East Georgia Regional Airport. By way of unanimous vote, council specifically agreed to pay 5 percent of the approximate $585,000 grant. Julian Sconyers made the motion and Rita Faulkner seconded. “A Super Powers Camp” to be held at Adrian Baptist

   Popular superhero Spiderman stopped by Adrian Baptist Church recently to finalize plans for his visit to the church’s Vacation Bible School, “A Super Powers Camp,” to be held July 21, July 22, and July 23.

“Over the Moat” VBS held at Victory Temple

   Victory Temple Church, along with pastor Chris Peebles and youth director Annie Fraizer, held its annual Vacation Bible School June 19-23. This year’s theme was “ Over the Moat.” Participants learned about how David fought the giant, which taught attendees how to fight their own.

Class of 1961 meets for annual reunion

   The Emanuel County Elementary & High School Class of 1961 held its 56th class reunion on June 30 – July 2.

   The reunion began with a meet-and-greet at Lynn & Bob’s on Friday evening.

   Saturday for lunch, the class met at Harriett Hodges Mazyck’s “Hodges Reunion House” for a fish fry, complete with all the trimmings, played bingo, and enjoyed discussions of the old high school days they shared together. … Read More


Watt attends 2017 Daisy National BB Gun Championship

   Dwight Watt recently traveled to Rogers, Ark., to attend the 52nd Annual Daisy National BB Gun Championship Match (DNBBGCM), sponsored by Daisy Outdoor Products and the National Rifle Association.

One sentenced in Superior Court

   In Emanuel County Superior Court’s April 2017 term, Keith Bernard Young Jr. negotiated a guilty plea on one count sale of marijuana. He received a 10-year probation sentence with credit for time served from June 24, 2016.


Emanuel County students attend WNBA game

   On Sunday, July 9, a group students including members of the SHS Lady Tigers basketball program and SHS basketball cheerleaders attended an WNBA game featuring the Atlanta Dream and the Dallas Wings.
