The Rock and Roll dance craze is sweeping the world, black and white portable television sets hit the market, the cost of coffee is $0.85 per pound, postage stamps are only $0.03 cents, a loaf of bread can be purchased for a heaping amount of $0.18 cents, gas only costs $0.22 cents per gallon, and the yearly average income is based around $4,450. The ladies’ hearts flutter as Elvis Presley appears on The Ed Sullivan Show, entering the music charts for the very first time with his latest hit, “Heartbreak Hotel.”
How about a trip down Memory Lane… Who remembers watching The Wizard of Oz air for the first time on CBS? What are now considered classics were once the hottest movies on the market. Do movies such as Guys and Dolls, The King and I, Trapeze, High Society, or Around the World in 80 Days grab your attention?
This was the world Mr. Lou entered into after completing school in 1956.
