Funeral services for Etheyl Douglas Sconyers, 89, of Kite were held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with Elder Tommy Rountree and Elder Sam Adkins officiating. Interment followed at Sardis Cemetery near Kite. She died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Community Hospice in Vidalia following an extended illness.
Mrs. Etheyl Douglas Sconyers was born August 19, 1927 to the late Walter G. Douglas and Mary Flanders Douglas. She was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County and a loving mother. Everyone knew her as “Aunt E.” She enjoyed her flowers and needlework, and she was an expert seamstress. A member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Sconyers, former employee of Coca-Cola in Augusta; sister, Sybal Douglas Williams; and brother, Thetus L. Douglas.
Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Sconyers of Kite; sister, Corliss Douglas (Willard) Allen of Lake City, Fla.; and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers were Larry Morrison, Trojan Harrison, Steve Jones, Thomas Sconyers, Phil Allen, Ed Allen, and Mitchell Moore.
