On Thursday, March 16 at 4 p.m., Darcy Canen Thompson, 24, of a Swainsboro address appeared in court before Judge Bobby Reeves for his initial hearing. The same morning of his first appearance hearing, Thompson was arrested on warrants for his involvement in the fatal shooting of Tyrone Cochran on Wednesday, March 15. He was charged with malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and bail was denied.

Just hours after warrants were obtained, investigators received information that the suspect wanted on charges was located in Statesboro at a friend’s house. GBI agents assigned to the case, along with members of Statesboro Police Department, located the accused at said location, at which time he was taken into custody without incident. Thompson was transported by Swainsboro Police detectives from Statesboro to the Emanuel County Jail, where he is being housed.
