Funeral services for Jack Hall, 84, of Swainsboro will be held Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Leigh officiating, assisted by Rev. D.R. Parker and Rev. Dr. Bob Blankenship. Interment will follow in the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Lexsy. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 from 5 – 7 p.m. He died Monday, Nov. 28, 2016 at the University Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Jack Hall was born October 6, 1932 in Wesley to the late Bobby Grady and Elvira Hayes Hall. He was a 1951 graduate of Swainsboro High School and served his country for four years with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Hall owned a logging/turpentine company and lumber yard for many years before opening The Home Shop, later to become Badcock Furniture. An avid First Baptist Church softball player and best known for his rightfield abilities, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing and entertaining friends and family with his famous fish fries at The Old Place. Hall was a past member of the Swainsboro Masonic Lodge No. 244, a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and attended Swainsboro First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Cherie Strickland, Lavay Lawson, and brothers, Napier Hall, Lafosse Hall and Lavaughn Hall.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nelle Montford Hall of Swainsboro; one son, H. G. “Hal” (Vicki) Hall of Swainsboro; five grandchildren, Bart (Julie) Hall of Macon, Barron (Katie) Hall of Gray, Shelby Hall of Athens, and Micah Strickland and Jared Strickland, both of Swainsboro; one great-grandchild, Emmerlyn Grace Hall of Gray; and nieces, nephews, extended family, and numerous friends.
Pallbearers are Albert Hall, Justin Hall, Jerry Lawson Jr., Marc Curry, Tim Williams, and Aaron Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be the original members of the First Baptist softball team.
Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
