The Wiregrass Chapter of the Georgia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) held its monthly meeting Thursday, June 9 at New China Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. with Vice President Steve Burke presiding. The meeting had 27 members and guests in attendance.

The program for the evening was presented by Burke on genealogy. He spoke about his interest in his heritage when he met the late Fred Womack and his wife, Judy, at a family reunion several years prior. He informed the assembled that he took lots of notes and began researching his family. He joined the Patrick Carr Ranger SAR Chapter in Waynesboro. Later, as Womack organized the Wiregrass Chapter, Burke transfered to Swainsboro’s local chapter. He not only traced his family in the United States, but he also found out where his family came from in Europe. Burke loves the outdoors, and over the years, he has presented programs not only regarding family heritage but on individual American Revolution patriots, the way they lived and how they lived off the land to survive the harsh weather and the Native American indians. Burke recently built a 6-pound naval cannon that he fires in support of American Revolution events all over southeast Georgia…
