The Emanuel County Retired Educators Association (EREA), a chapter of the Georgia Retired Educators Association, awarded Shazorierier “Zoe” Betts its annual scholarship at its May 18 meeting held at the Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society Farm and Home Museum. The scholarship, this year in the amount of $1,000, is given to a student majoring in teacher education who has shown exceptional promise as a future educator as a result of high academic attainment, significant community involvement, and demonstrated interest in education as a career. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of their cumulative grade point average; high school, college, and community involvement and awards; and a personal essay describing why they are majoring in education, why they think they would make a good teacher, and what they hope to accomplish as an educator.
