Elzie StapletonFuneral services for Elzie Stapleton, 76, of Kite will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Rehoboth Baptist Church at 4 p.m. with Reverends Donnie Bush and Allen Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. He died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Elzie Stapleton was born August 3, 1939 in Wrightsville to the late Jim Stapleton and Elthel Pernell Stapleton. He lived most of his life in Johnson County and was second of nine children. Stapleton grew up in farming, later worked in turpentining, and retired as a logger. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Meeks. Stapleton was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Jennifer Stapleton; brothers, Ellis Stapleton, and Jimmy Lee Stapleton; and sister, Vada Lee Stapleton.

Survivors include his wife, Corinne Stapleton of Kite; son, Chris (Kathy) Stapleton of Adrian; daughters, Jenny Hopkins of Kite, Tina (Gerald) Thomas of Rentz, Connie (Jess) Bush of Adrian, and Stephanie (Tony) Hutcheson of Swainsboro; brother, Ellie (Mary Sally) Stapleton of Adrian; sisters, Claudie Cordry of Wrightsville, Evalena (J.H.) Meeks of Kite, Lynn (Ervin) Stapleton of Kite, and Virginia (Paul) Coleman of Meeks; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers are Kevin Stapleton, Kyle Stapleton, Lance Hutcheson, Shannon Stapleton, Sherman Stapleton, Robin Stapleton, Sammy Henry, Steven Stapleton and Andy Tant. Honorary pallbearers are Dillion Hopkins, Tim Stapleton, Junior Stapleton, Jessie Henry, Billy Tant, James Stapleton, Wilburn Wilkerson, Frank Stapleton and Stoney Stapleton.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
