Funeral services for Marsha Lynn Donaldson, 58, of Rock Hill, S.C. will be held Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Twin City with Elders Tommy Rountree and Sam Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Durden-Hudson Funeral Home on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 6 – 8 p.m. She died Thursday, March 31, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ms. Marsha Lynn Donaldson was born in Swainsboro and grew up in Twin City, graduating from Emanuel County Institute. Following graduation, she attended Emanuel County Junior College in Swainsboro, receiving an associate’s degree, and Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. She began her teaching career at Swainsboro High School, where she served as both tennis teams’ coach, as well as the cheerleading sponsor. Donaldson’s love of children led her to begin teaching at Swainsboro Elementary for several years. She then moved to Augusta and taught at Warren Road Elementary before moving to Rock Hill, S.C., where she continued her teaching career at Bethel Elementary in Clover, S.C. until her retirement. Her loving and nurturing nature led her to work at the Haven in Fort Mill, S.C. as a concierge for 15 years with families of Alzheimer and dementia patients. Donaldson also owned and operated Teach It in Swainsboro for several years. She truly loved her community and served on the Forest Villas Homeowners Association Board as both secretary and president. Donaldson was of the Primitive Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ruby C. Donaldson and Myrtle S. Donaldson; paternal grandfather, George W. Donaldson; maternal grandparents, B.A. (Snag) Johnson and (Melba) Rubene H. Johnson; and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include her parents, Lewis and Jenene Donaldson of Twin City; two sisters, Sharon Donaldson Smith of Rock Hill, S.C. and Joanie Donaldson Smith of Martinez; one brother, Lew Donaldson (Tammy) of Twin City; two aunts, Ruth D. Watson of Twin City and Nancy Hope of Brunswick; six nephews, Wes Donaldson (Debbie), Alex Donaldson (Jamie), Bill Donaldson (Krystal), Matt Lindsey, Rhett Smith and Eric Warren (Valarie); three nieces, Rann Smith, Suzanne Hampton (Drew) and Nikki Smith; five great-nieces; three great-nephews; and several special cousins.
Pallbearers are Wes Donaldson, Alex Donaldson, Bill Donaldson, Matt Lindsey, Rhett Smith, Brett Henry and Mace Henry.
