Charles L. “Babe” Lane, 84

Charles Lane obit   Funeral services Charles L. “Babe” Lane, 84, of Adrian were held on Thursday, July 16 at 1 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Oliver officiating, assisted by Rev. Franklin Sasser. Internment followed in the Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery in Garfield with military honors. He died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Serenity Hospice Place in Dublin.

   Mr. Lane was born in Garfield to the late Benjamin F., Sr. and Bessie Johnson Lane. He served his country in the United States Air Force, was a farmer for which he received the Farm Conversation Award, and retired after 32 years from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association, Adrian Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, was a past treasurer, and a member of the brotherhood. Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Bennett, and brother, Ben F. “Buddy” Lane, Jr.

   Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Williams Lane of Adrian; three daughters, Wanda Coleman (David) of Adrian, Barbara Shuman (Buddy) of Savannah, and Vicki Nowell (Joey) of Pooler; one son, Charles L. “Chuck” Lane, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Ann Fordham (Jerry) of Statesboro; one brother, Bobby Lane (Maxi Ann) of Garfield; one sister-in-law, Willie Lane of Garfield; four grandchildren, Megan Coleman Kight (Eric), Trudi Shuman, Charles Wade Shuman, and Laina Farr.

   Pallbearers were Mark Lane, Jeff Lane, Steve Lane, Ricky Lane, Ken Fordham, Wade Shuman, and Butch Lane. Honorary Pallbearers were Adrian Baptist Church Brotherhood.

   Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Adrian Baptist Church, care of David Coleman, 955 Odomville Church Rd., Adrian, GA  31002.

   Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
